Michigan State University senior Erin Pushman was hit by a drunk driver just off campus in East Lansing, Mich. It began when Aaron Trumley, of East Lansing, was unable to negotiate a 90-degree turn at an intersection. The car jumped a curb and hit Pushman as she was walking along a sidewalk. The impact threw her about 30 feet, causing her to sustain two broken legs and a broken left clavicle. Trumley, who had previously been convicted of three underage drinking violations, was arrested at the scene after failing a breath test. Pushman had to leave MSU and return to her parent's home in Hartland for two semesters of class. Her long road to recovery has become both physically and mentally draining. Although Pushman has had a lot of support, she was forced to face much of her healing process alone, since both of her parents have full-time jobs and all of her close friends were fifty miles away attending MSU. Pushman has recently returned to MSU limping on a cane. "I don't know if she'll ever recover, but I'm grateful at this point," Pushman's father later said. "She didn't lose her leg and she didn't lose her life. It's by God's grace."
