The Lost Boys is a term taken from Peter Pan to refer to Sudanese boys who became refugees from their country's civil war in the late 1980s. They literally ran for their lives about 1,000 miles across eastern Africa, dodging daily threats of death, both animal and human. Many of them found safety across the boarder in Kenya. The U.S. State Department has since resettled about 3,600 in America over the past three years, including eight boys who have found refuge in Grand Haven, Mich. After arriving in western Michigan, those eight boys have had to adapt socially to a world with different challenges than home.
